Tanning ban bill gets support from unlikely source

Updated:

Proposed legislation that restricts some people from tanning is receiving support from an unlikely source, a place that offers tanning.

The owner of Planet Beach, located in the hub city, says she's backing house bill 746 .If the bill is approved it would ban anyone under the age of eighteen from using a tanning bed. Owner Beverly Thoman says her facility offers more than just tanning and her business sole income does not come from the UV rays.

Thoman's reasoning for supporting this bill; because she feels those under the age of 18 have skin that is easily damaged and UV rays could potentially have negative effects on them later in life. Thoman goes on to say even if her sole income came from tanning she would have the same answer.

House Bill 746 passed the full house and is now making its way through a senate committee.
