Lafayette hospital designated 'Safe Sleep Champion'

Updated:

Women's & Children's Hospital was designated to be a "Safe Sleep Champion" by the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals on Tuesday for its efforts to help reduce incidences of Sudden Infant Death syndrome.

An estimated eighty babies die annually in Louisiana from SIDS, and it occurs when otherwise healthy babies die in their sleep for no apparent reason.

The "Safe Sleep Champion" designation is part of the national collaborative improvement and innovation network initiative, called Coin, and it facilitates collaborative learning across 13 states to help expand training on quality Improvement and related principles and practices relative to infant mortality.

Women's & Children's is among the first Louisiana birthing facilities to receive the new designation.
