Fund development executive joins SLCC administrative team


Paul Onuzuruike will lead South Louisiana Community College's Institutional Advancement division as its Associate Vice Chancellor. He began work at SLCC's Lafayette campus Monday.

Onuzuruike most recently worked as director of Leadership/Annual Giving and Capital Campaign Manager with the University of Louisiana at Monroe Foundation.

"I'm truly excited and looking forward to being a part of the Institutional Advancement Division and in moving the College to the next level by building and nurturing long-term relationships with all of our constituents," said Onuzuruike.

At ULM, he was charged with the overall management of the "SOAR Campaign" - the university's first capital campaign. This included monitoring the timely and accurate implementation of campaign tasks and activities, reporting on campaign progress, serving as staff lead to all campaign activities, events and programs, as well as executing a comprehensive program of volunteer recruitment, training and development.

Onuzuruike also provided leadership and oversight to the university's annual giving program, where he executed a robust, annual fundraising plan that enhanced the pipeline for leadership giving as well as increased annual giving revenue from $790,000 in 2011 to $2.14 million in 2012. His other accomplishments include the establishment of Warhawk Student Philanthropists Program - ULM's student philanthropy program.

He has more than 17 years of experience in both higher education and nonprofit institutions; including serving as Director of Fund Development at Midwest Behavioral Health Services, Director of Annual Fund and Alumni Affairs at Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, and as an Advancement Contract Officer at J. Arki Consulting Group where he executed development and advancement strategic operations which resulted in 38 percent enhancements, in the group's process and performance.

Onuzuruike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Finance from the State University of New York - College at Old Westbury; a Master of Public Affairs degree from Park Graduate School of Public Affairs - Parkville; a professional certificate in Fund-Raising Management from the Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration - Kansas City; and a professional certification in Gift Planning from Gift College/Crescendo eLearning for Gift Planners - Camarillo, CA.

"Paul is bringing a wealth of fundraising and development knowledge to our college," said Dr. Natalie Harder, SLCC chancellor. "We welcome his experience and expertise and look forward to his leadership in Institutional Advancement."

Onuzuruike will be a member of the chancellor's college-wide Cabinet.

As Associate Vice Chancellor, he will be responsible for soliciting gifts related to annual support and capital projects for the college. He will also work with the college's Foundation and its board, and oversee the Public Relations Office and the Grants Office.
