Overdoses prompt synthetic marijuana ban

Updated:

The state of Louisiana has banned the sale and use of eight types of synthetic marijuana after more than a hundred people have been treated for overdoses in the past two weeks.

Officials warn that synthetic marijuana comes with health risks including elevated blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, hallucinations, seizures, and suicidal thoughts.

Synthetic marijuana has become popular in recent years, becoming the second most abused illegal substance by high school students.

Synthetic marijuana usually consists of various herbs sprayed with chemicals that mimic the effects of THC however many of these compounds go untested and can lead to serious health issues.
