The Lafayette Police Department was recognized at a ceremony in Baton Rouge on Tuesday by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for OWI enforcement.

The department was presented an award for the total OWI arrest in 2013.

The department arrested a total of 869 suspected impaired drivers.

Corporal Tommy Aphaiyarath , a member of the Lafayette Police Department's ATAC (Alcohol Traffic Action Campaign) Section, was recognized for his 216 OWI arrest by an individual officer.

With the assistance from a grant provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, the Lafayette Police Department continues to lead the state in removing impaired drivers from the roadway.
