Drug suspect flees traffic stop

Updated:

A traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon led to a pursuit which took authorities into the Ebenezer area and ended on Monceaux Road near Rayne.

Officers with the Crowley Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the attempt to stop, the driver fled and led officers on a chase. While on Monceaux Road, the suspect fled into a field and was apprehended by officers without incident.

"After arresting the suspect, officers determined the reason for the suspect fleeing to be due to his possession of 69 bags of synthetic marijuana" stated Chief KP Gibson.

Crowley Police arrested Drake Menard, 21 of Rayne. Menard was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail on traffic violations, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, PWITD Marijuana and Monies Derived from Drug Proceeds.

"I appreciate the officer's hard work. Their efforts have removed a good quantity of narcotics off of our streets" stated Chief Gibson.
