One local man is working to keep the peace in two separate professions. A 23-year veteran of the Lafayette Police Department, Greg Randell, is a protector of peace while wearing the badge and standing behind the pulpit.
Randell is currently the Communications Sergeant at the department, managing the entire Communications section. Randell is also a protector of peace as a man of God.
Just two months ago, "Officer" Randell became "Pastor" Randell at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church. Randell has been a member of the church for at least seven years now. He began his calling in the church as a deacon, and later accepted a place in ministry. Randell began his work for the Lord as a pastor a few months following the death of former Pastor, Robert H. Charles, in October.
"I truly believe that I was born to become a pastor because as a pastor you are a lover of men. Of all men: women, boys, and girls. You are a lover of people," said Pastor Greg Randell. Randell believes that proclaiming peace by God and being a peace maker by profession is all the same.
"You're dealing with people on both sides and on both sides people are hurting. On the professional side and on the spiritual side," said Pastor Randell. He said everyone needs saving in some way and both of his professions allow him to do just that.
"As a police officer when it comes to making an arrest you do the job, however you're still looking at people. After the job is done you have to let them know that there's still hope," said Pastor Randell.
Randell said while he didn't expect to become a pastor this soon in his life, he says you never know what God has in store. Services at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church take place every Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
