Bill cracks down on cigarette litter

Updated:

A proposed bill could extinguish a bad habit of throwing cigarette butts on the ground.

State Representative Patrick Connick is sponsoring House Bill 910, which cracks down on cigarette litter.

Under the proposed bill, people throwing their butts out of a vehicle or on the ground would face a $300 fine and eight hours of community service.

"If you look at the statistics from "Keep America Beautiful" and those type of organizations, cigarette butts are the number one litter problem in the nation." said Connick.

House Bill 910, if approved, would require the court consider each offense as a separate violation.
