No suspects in day-time murder of New Iberia man

Updated:

School buses were unloading as Iberia Parish Sheriff Deputies investigated the scene of a fatal shooting in broad daylight.

Around 1 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting on Ann St. in New Iberia. That's when they discovered a 24-year-old black male, unresponsive in a small pool of blood at the corner of Ann and Sam Streets. Officials began performing CPR on the victim before he was taken away in an ambulance. The coroner pronounced him dead at the hospital.

For most part of the afternoon, investigators had three streets roped off, including Jasmine Street, where the victim's car was parked at a home.

IPSO spokesman Lieutenant Anthony Green said, "He parked the car here and walked off of Ann to Sam street and we are told that's where the shooting occurred."

News Ten spoke with the people inside of the home. They say they do not know the victim and do not know why the victim's car was parked there. Deputies are trying to determine the same thing. Why was he there when he, according to officials, did not live in the area and why was he shot multiple times in the head and back?

Green said, "A number of people heard shooting, no screaming. Apparently he was just standing there and another vehicle was involved based on the little bit of information we did receive."
After the victim's car was towed, deputies began processing a second white car parked in front of a home on Sam Street; following tips received from witnesses about a possible vehicle involved. It is unclear if that car in particular is related to the crime.

At this time there are no suspects or motive in the murder. The victim, who investigators believe arrived in the neighborhood alone, has not been officially identified. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 337-369-3711.
