Opelousas convenience store investigation leads to arrest

St. Landry Parish authorities arrested an Opelousas man for the illegal sale of alcohol to minors and the distribution of synthetic marijuana.

40-year-old Omar "Detroit" Waleed was charged with unlawful sale of alcohol to a person under the age of 21 as well as distribution of schedule I.

For several months, Opelousas police and St. Landry Sheriff's Office have been monitoring the Fastway Convenient Store located in Opelousas. Undercover operations have been conducted by both agencies related to the distribution of synthetic marijuana. Police also conducted an operation regarding the illegal sale of alcohol to minors.

Waleed is being held in the Opelousas City Jail.
