Lafayette revelers celebrate Mardi Gras in the cold

Updated:

The diamond anniversary of Krewe of Gabriel kicked off right at 10 a.m. Fat Tuesday morning despite iced floats and freezing temperatures.

Lafayette native Dr. Richard Bourgeois, son of King Gabriel the 28th, served as this year's king of carnival.

After a toast from City-Parish President Joey Durel, the king toasted his loyal subjects for turning out for the 75th annual celebration.

And those same die-hard Mardi Gras lovers said mother nature would never rain on their parade.

The crowd was smaller this year in Lafayette, but many said it was a good thing as they were able to catch more throws and get better bargains on parking.
