UL Lafayette secure fair grounds

Updated:

If you are one of the thousands who enjoys the festivities put on by organizers at Le Festival de Mardi Gras, they have you covered when it comes to your safety.

UL Lafayette police, who are in charge of security at Cajun Field, are being assisted by police departments from all around Acadiana. But one the most beneficial tools they utilize during Mardi Gras, is their 33 foot mobile command center.

Some of the tools at their disposal inside the vehicle include four computer stations, a command operations room, and an on-board computer server. But one of their most utilized and beneficial tools hovers high above the facility.

UL Lafayette Police Sergeant Billy Abrams says the command center has a 33 foot mast at the rear of vehicle. It has tilt, pan and zoom control on it. Abrams said the zoom camera allows them to have eyes in the sky and able to see anything on the grounds.

Abrams said the camera came in handy this past weekend. A lost child came to them and with the camera they panned in and around the park. Using the zoom they were able to find the lost child's parents. Abrams said the public can always help by saying something if they see something.
