Shooting suspects sought in Abbeville

Updated:

The Abbeville Police Department are currently investigating complaints involving unknown subjects shooting firearms within the City of Abbeville.

On the evening of February 27, 2014 at approximately 7:15 PM, the police department received a complaint of subjects shooting guns in the area of the 1600 Block of Martin Luther King Drive. Officers investigated the complaint but were unable to locate any evidence of a shooting nor any witnesses to a shooting.

Later the same evening, APD received a second complaint of a subject with a gunshot wound located at Tiki's Lounge on South Miles Street. APD and Acadian Ambulance responded to the complaint. There officers found Deonzae Lee with a single gunshot wound to the right forearm area. Lee was transported to Abbeville General Hospital where he was treated for the wound.

While officers were down at Tiki's Lounge, a third call came into APD. The complainant stated that subjects were shooting behind his residence located at 1101 Green Street. Upon the officers' arrival, several casings were located at the rear of the residence on the carport. Officers also noticed damage to a vehicle, which appeared to be bullet holes. Detectives were then called out to process the scene and to interview the victim, Lee.

Detectives interviewed Lee while at Abbeville General Hospital. Lee advised officers that he observed two subjects beating on a house as though they were attempting to get in. Lee stated that he believed that these subjects were the two who may have been shooting earlier on Martin Luther King Drive and were running away. Lee stated that he confronted the subjects and one of them began to shoot at him. Lee stated that he took off running when one of the rounds hit him in the arm. Lee stated that he did not know who the subjects were and could not give officers a description of them. Lee also advised the officers that he did not want to file any charges.

Lee was treated for the gunshot wound and was released from the emergency room. While waiting for his release, officers learned of a warrant for the arrest of Deonzae Lee from the Department of Corrections for a Parole Violation. Upon his release from the hospital, Deonzae Lee was arrested on the warrant and brought to the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center.

APD is asking for the public's assistance in removing violence from our city streets. Anyone having information about these shootings is asked to contact the Abbeville Police Department at 337-893-2511.
