Teen suspect cleared in shooting of Opelousas boy

Opelousas Police Chief Perry Gallows says the 16 year old suspect arrested in connection the shooting of a 5 year old boy has been eliminated as a suspect.

The teen still faces weapons charges. The child was last listed in critical condition.

 


 

 

UPDATE: A sixteen year old juvenile has been arrested in connection with the shooting of an Opelousas child.

Investigators say they located the weapon used in the shooting of a 5 year old boy in the 500 block of MLK Drive. The weapon was found under a porch less than 10 feet away from where the victim was found.

A 16 year old juvenile acquaintance of the family has been arrested for illegal carrying of a weapon. The weapon believed to have been used in this shooting was brought to the residence at some point by the juvenile, however, they have not determined when.

Investigators say they are no longer considering the incident a drive by shooting.

The child was last listed in critical condition.
