No injuries in well blowout in Acadia Parish

Updated:

State Police say well control officials are prepping the immediate area for re-entry in order to cap and shut off well. This could take a few days since it's a very volatile situation and natural gas is still spewing. Sheriff's Office is coordinating plans to escort evacuated residents back into their homes to retrieve pets and necessary items.

Residents wishing to return to their home must report to Eunice Fire Department #3 located at 600 Sitting Road between 10 a.m. and 1p.m and 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Residents must bring a picture ID with their home address on it. They will be escorted to their homes to and from the fire department.

Due to the well blowout in Acadia parish there are two road closures. La Highway 13 East at La 368 and La Highway 13 East at La 3123.

Gas was spewing from a well operated by Black Creek Drilling, located at Highway 13 South and Atteberry Road. Officials evacuated the area within a 1 1/2 mile radius, including about 12 homes and 40 people. There are no reported injuries.

State Trooper Hammons with State Police Troop I says if you're having trouble getting to LSUE this morning, try a detour of La 365 to La 367, and up 190.

Trooper Hammons says the inclement weather overnight/this morning has posed a major issue tackling the natural gas leak. This situation will likely last throughout the day. Caroline Balchunas is in Eunice off Hwy 13 this morning and will have the latest updates.
