Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne speaks about La.'s tourism industry

Updated:

Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne was in Lafayette Tuesday at the Lafayette Kiwanis Club.

Dardenne spoke on the updates to Louisiana' s tourism situation and how successful tourism has been over the past couple of years. He says the boost in tourism has been very important to the economy of Louisiana.

Events such as Festival International and other events are big drivers for bringing money in from out of state.

"Twenty-six plus million people visiting the state spending $10.7 billion and leaving behind $665 million that you're not paying, I'm not paying, the people of the state is not paying so we welcome those folks who come to Louisiana and leave tax dollars behind" said Dardenne.

As for the lieutenant governor's run for governor in 2015, he said he is already raising money and laying the ground work for the campaign.
