LCG funding committee proposed - KLFY News 10

LCG funding committee proposed

Updated:

If you want to hear what people want, then form a citizens committee. That's exactly what the Lafayette Consolidated Council plans to do. Councilman Kevin Naquin says the council has been pondering the idea.

Naquin says the committee will be called the "Future Needs/Funding Sources Committee."

Their job will be to assess the needs of the various consolidated departments. "Whether it's Parks and Recreation, Public Works, or fire and police there are a lot of big needs and funding issues that we're going to have in the future," explains Naquin.

Naquin says the committee will not discuss governmental structure, the charter, or deconsolidation. "This is not trying to re-invent the wheel or trying to bring another issue up," adds Naquin

The committee, yet to be formed, will comprise of five citizens from the community and three advisory council members. They are council chair Kevin Naquin, Finance Chair Jay Castille, and Lafayette Public Utilities Authority Chair Donald Bertrand.

Naquin says the goal is for the committee to meet twice a month. He is hopeful that within 8 to 9 months the council will receive feedback and recommendations.
