Courir de Mardi Gras held at Vermilionville

Updated:

With help from the Basile Mardi Gras Association, the Bayou Vermilion District brought a traditional country Mardi Gras run to Vermilionville on Sunday for their annual Courir de Mardi Gras.

The event began at 10 a.m. with the courir, an overview of the Mardi Gras tradition, and capuchon-making workshops for the kids.

From there, guests stopped at six homes in Vermilionville's historic village and watched members from the Basile Mardi Gras Association beg for all the ingredients for the community gumbo and perform some traditions along the way.

Attendees also had a chance to view Vermilionville's a tale of two Mardi Gras exhibit, highlighting the different costume styles worn during Mardi Gras celebrations in the city and the country.
