The Louisiana Speaker of the House, Chuck Kleckley, joined members of the Acadiana Press Club on Monday to discuss the workforce and innovation for a stronger economy program, known as the Wise program.

They met to discuss how it could help Louisiana's higher education community meet our workforce challenge.

Recently announced economic development projects have created more than 80 thousand new jobs in Louisiana, with a projected shortage of workers to fill those positions.

In January, Governor Bobby Jindal announced that $40 million will be available through his proposed budget to Louisiana's higher education institutions through the wise fund.

"It's a good program that'll incentivize higher ed, that'll incentivize universities for their high demand programs to get these programs out and fund these programs." said Kleckley.

The Wise fund was structured to align higher education programming with Louisiana's job market.
