69yo BR man wins $1M as Powerball runner-up

Updated:

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 69-year-old Baton Rouge man is Louisiana's latest millionaire.

The Louisiana Lottery Corp. says Alex Bookter, a golf course manager for Baton Rouge xxx, picked up his prize from lottery officials last week. Officials say he's the first person to win a $1 million prize from the lottery this year.

The Advocate reports Bookter purchased a Quick Pick ticket from a Cracker Barrel store that matched the first five numbers drawn in the Jan. 29 Powerball drawing, but missed the red Powerball. The store will get a $10,000 selling bonus - 1 percent of the prize.

Bookter won $700,000 after federal and state taxes were withheld.
