Pedestrian struck by car in Kaplan

Kaplan police responded to a pedestrian accident on Saturday at East 1st Street and Lemaire St.

Officers learned a 2006 red Chevrolet Impala was heading east bound on 1st Street when pedestrian 63-year-old Billy Mire of Kaplan, was struck by the car.

Mire suffered major injuries and was transported to Lafayette General hospital by Acadian Ambulance. Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams states Mire is currently in critical condition.

The crash was witnessed by several people and we also obtained video footage of the crash. No charges have been filed on the driver of the vehicle at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
