One penny, one year, one project. It's a proposal City Parish President Joey Durel brought up during Wednesday's State of the Parish Speech.

Durel endorsed a proposal by the airport commission for a 1-cent, one-year parish wide sales tax, to help fund a new terminal at Lafayette Regional Airport. With council approval, voters will be asked to impose the tax, with revenue dedicated solely to the terminal project.

Matt Cruse, Chairman of the Lafayette Airport Commission said he had a meeting Thursday with the finance committee of the city parish council and is hopeful the tax will be on the council agenda in March or early April.

If approved the one-cent parish wide sales tax will start January 1 2015 and end December 31 2015. It is expected to generate between 30 to 35 million dollars.
