The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a telephone scam that is associated with persons randomly calling elderly residents and reporting to be affiliated with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office indicating that the person missed a court date and a warrant is being issued for their arrest.

The caller solicits money in exchange for the warrant being dismissed.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office will not solicit money via the phone; residents are warned to not provide any personal information to persons via telephone unless they are certain they represent a reputable collection method.
