Woman honored after becoming first patient to receive procedure

Updated:

Healthcare professionals at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana gave a very special lady a surprise birthday party on Tuesday.

Lula Veronie celebrated her 85th birthday at the hospital after being Regional's first transcatheter aortic valve replacement patient.

Since she had the surgery a year ago and has had a remarkable recovery ever since, coming back to the hospital so soon after a check-up sounded quite suspicious.

Just a year after her surgery, Veronie is already back to doing her yard work, cooking and taking care of her family and says she's feeling very good.
