Kaplan councilman resigns

The mayor of Kaplan was surprised when one of his councilman came to him with a resignation letter.

Councilman at large Herbert Gaspard was just months away from finishing up his first term when he gave his notice. The news came as a shock to Kaplan mayor Kirk Champagne because Gaspard had already put his name in for re-election. Gaspard's reason; job re-location to Texas.

The council will appoint someone to finish Gaspard's term on February 14. Mayor Champagne said this kind of thing never happens. Champagne hopes whoever takes over for Gaspard will be ready to get down to business.

There will be an election in April where Gaspard's seat, which ends June 30, will be up for grabs.
