15-year-old arrested in homicide investigation


Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Deputies say an arrest has been made in the homicide of 49 year old Michael Patin of Arnaudville.

The shooting was reported to Lafayette 911 at 11:12 p.m. the suspect was taken into custody by Lafayette City Police and Sheriff's Deputies prior to 6 a.m. this morning.

The suspect is 15 years old.

The continuing investigation has indicated that a serious of crimes involving this suspect as well as others ranging in age from 12 to 16 years old, 5 additional juveniles have been charged with criminal trespassing, unauthorized use of a movable and illegal possession of stolen things.

None of these 5 juveniles are considered to be directly involved in the murder of Patin.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting in progress at the Jockey Lot located at 3011 N W Evangeline Thruway on at 11:12 PM on February 2, 2014,. 

Upon arriving on scene deputies found 49 year old Michael Patin of Arnaudville shot once in the back, deputies learned from witnesses that Patin was shot during a carjacking in the parking lot. 

Patin was employed by the Jockey Lot.  Patin was transported to a Lafayette Hospital where he pronounced dead shortly after arrival. 

Deputies have several suspects in custody but because of the ages of those involved no additional information can be released at this point. 

Investigators continue to gather evidence and speak to witnesses as this investigation continues.
