Super Bowl snack sales jump for Scott store

Updated:

Jeremy Schexnidur, manager of Early's Cajun Supermarket in Scott, describes the crowd of shoppers in his store as "a flood of customers" on Sunday morning.

"Dozens, I'm sure," says Schexnidur.

He says employees at his store were not only busy checking out customers, but constantly re-stocking fan favorite finger foods.

"Boudin and our cracklins and our beef jerky," says Schexnidur.

If finger food had a dedicated national holiday, Super Bowl Sunday might be it. According to the National Chicken Council's 2014 "wing report," Americans ate around 1.25 billion wings on Sunday, which was 20 million more than last year.

Schexnidur says that's no surprise.

"We was expecting a crowd, but really not as much as we did. We did pretty good," says Schexnidur.

Schexnidur says beer and liquor were also a big seller, which some customers say is a mainstay for Super Bowl celebrations.

"Lots of beer and a fifth of Hot Damn. You gotta have the fifth of Hot Damn," says Scott resident Jimi Day.

Lafayette resident Cory Hebert says beer goes with any Super Bowl party foods.

"Beer and some saltine crackers to go with some raw oysters to have a good time at my buddy's house," says Hebert.
