Morgan City police department statement on Chief Travis Crouch

The following is a statement from Morgan City Police Department Assistant Chief Michael A. Banks Sr. provided at a press conference this afternoon regarding the unexpected passing of Travis A. Crouch, the Chief of Police for the Morgan City Police Department.  Thanks for your patience and understanding during the difficult time.  

    " On February 01, 2014 shortly after midnight, Morgan City Police Department received information that Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch, while on leisure time in Biloxi, Miss.  was deceased.  Biloxi, Miss, Police Department confirmed that Chief Crouch was the victim of a single gunshot wound, and that he is deceased.  Biloxi Police Department is conducting an investigation into Chief Crouch's passing.  The Morgan City Police Department has not received any official report on the incident at this time.  We have been advised that the investigation is ongoing, and that no foul play is suspected.  Chief Crouch's family has been notified of his passing.  The Morgan City Police Department will do everything possible to help them cope during this tragedy.  Earlier this morning, Mayor Frank Grizzaffi and members of the City Council assembled the members of the Morgan City Police Department to notify them of Police Chief Crouch's passing.  Chief Crouch, who began his career with the Morgan City Police Department in 1991, was appointed Police Chief of the Morgan City Police Department on February 26, 2013.  He accepted that appointment. Chief Crouch began making innovative and positive changes within this department.  Chief Crouch demanded a higher standard of service from his officers in order to better serve the citizens of our community.  Although we grieve with Chief Crouch's family and our community, we, the members of the Morgan City Police Department vow to continue to achieve the higher standards Chief Crouch set in motion.  The Morgan City Police Department would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and assistance we have received during this difficult time.    Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as they become available.
