Office of Emergency Preparedness, ready

Updated:

The Vermilion Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness says they are preparing for the worst. They are expecting icy conditions throughout the area and want residents to prepare just like they would during a hurricane.

They suggest filling up generators with gas, having enough non-perishable food along with water to last through the weekend and above all stay weather aware.

Director of the VPOEP also suggest keeping cell phones charged and filling vehicles with gas. Broussard says because if there is no electricity then the gas pumps will not be working.

Broussard wants everyone to do the same kinds of things they would do during a hurricane. Municipalities throughout Vermilion Parish say they are preparing for the winter mess the best they can.

The mayor in Maurice says he has closed city hall for Tuesday. He's also checking his generators, making sure they are in working order.
