US Highway 71 has been reopened, following a train derailment in Saint Landry Parish Saturday evening.
According to Union Pacific, 14-cars carrying mixed freight toppled over near the town of Morrow around 10:00 PM.
The company says it happened near the intersection of US 71 at LA 361. US 71 was shut down in order to clear the scene, but reopened around midnight last night.
Company officials are saying there were no injuries and no hazardous materials were leaked. But, they could neither confirm nor deny any such materials were on board the train.
According to state police, only one area residence was evacuated, but the residents occupying the house have since been allowed to return home. Union pacific says the cause of the derailment is under investigation.
