Pack of dogs taking over streets

Updated:

Several Abbeville residents are trying to take their neighborhoods and streets back that have gone to the dogs - literally.

An increase in loose and stray dogs has plagued many areas of the city and causing quite a nuisance. Concerned citizens say the dogs are knocking over trash cans, digging holes in their yards, even preventing them from leaving their homes.

One resident, who wants to remain anonymous, says animal control has placed traps in and around his neighborhood but more needs to be done. That resident goes on to say they need to wake up and do their jobs because if this was happening in their neighborhood the shoe would be on the other foot.

Since Monday was a national holiday, government offices were closed including the Vermilion Parish Animal Control Office. So we were unable to get their response.
