Major house fire on Verot School Rd.

At 4:00 Sunday afternoon, firefighters from Lafayette, Youngsville, Milton, and Broussard responded to 3549 Verot School Road to a reported house fire.

Water tanks from Scott and Carencro were also requested due to lack of hydrants. When firefighters arrived, the garage was fully involved.

Heavy smoke was coming the eaves of the dwelling. The fire quickly spread to the attic area. Shortly afterwards, the flames were coming through the roof.  Firefighters battled the blaze for at least two hours before getting it under control. The 18,000 square foot house was completely destroyed by the fire.

The owner, Ralph Wadleigh, and his family were home at the time. Mr. Wadleigh stated that the fire originated in the garage. They attempted to extinguish it, but the fire grew too fast. They immediately dialed 911. There were no injuries.

Firefighters will likely be on the scene for several more hours extinguishing spot fires.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
