MLK Parade to roll through Lafayette this weekend

Join hundreds in the community as they gather for the city of Lafayette's Reverend Martin Luther King Holiday Parade this weekend in celebration of MLK day.

The parade will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Clifton Chenier Center on Willow Street and continue down Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Parkway.

It will end on Cora Street at the Martin Luther King Center with a musical performance at 4:30 p.m.

Events will continue at the center on Monday, MLK day, from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.

We caught up with the chairperson of this celebration for his thoughts on the upcoming events.

"We just encourage the public to come out and continue to support this holiday. Especially at this time when we try to bring everybody in the community to reflect on our past leaders and some of the great accomplishments not only in our state, but our country." said Chairperson Gerald Boudreaux.

A community luncheon will also be held at the center Monday at 11:45 a.m., and the evening program at 6 p.m. will feature state Senator Karen Carter Peterson.

MLK day is also an official holiday for Lafayette Consolidated Government and that means the Lafayette Transit System, including daytime, night owl, and para-transit, will not provide services Monday, January 20th.

Regular scheduled transit services will resume on Tuesday, January 21.
