Duson's trailer ordinance

Updated:

Duson Mayor Johnny Thibodeaux introduced an ordinance he believes Duson could benefit from.

Mayor Thibodeaux says Duson's current trailer ordinance does not include a regulation for manufactured skirting. "Require some of these skirtings on these trailers that are moving in; and not no wood or plywood or tin or whatever," says the mayor.

Other proposed changes include not being able to use a camper as a place of residence. Plus, if approved mobile homes in Duson will also have an age limit.

"It has to be 15 years or newer for it to be allowed within the corporate limits of The City of Duson.  So, we can do that," adds Mayor Thibodeaux.

The council is also considering putting a stop to trailers being used as rental property.  If you move one into Duson, then you have to live in it.

"I think like Kevin Naquin said the other day. Not everyone is going to agree with what we're doing.  If we want to clean up our town, then there are some things we are going to have to do.

The amended trailer ordinance returns to the council next month for approval. The mayor says if you have a trailer or camper that does not comply with the changes, chances are your property will be grandfathered-in.
