Missed meetings could result in reduction in pay

Updated:

Several Lafayette Parish School Board members could see a reduction in their pay, all stemming from missing meetings.

This past year the school board revised its attendance policy, requiring members to turn in written excuses rather than just verbal. If that's not provided, a one hundred dollar deduction per unexcused absence will be made to their eight hundred dollar a month pay.

Several members have acquired over five absences but many of them say they will be excused. School Board member Mark Babineaux said in some ways it's like going to principal's office with a hand written note but since they are a policy board everyone should abide by the rules.

Board members have until February to submit their excuses or face the one hundred dollar penalty per unexcused absence.
