Acadiana shoppers get early start on Black Friday

It was not a quiet night around Lafayette. Shoppers were eager to grab deals from all the open stores.

For the shoppers who stayed up around the clock, there were definitely good bargains and some good steals. Toys "R" Us was quieter Friday morning than the Thursday night rush but with deals starting at 5 a.m., it took some planning.

One woman from north Louisiana made her rounds. For some, it's a tradition, even a right of passage to hunt for those bargains.

"DOUSAY: "Target, J. C. Penny, Academy, but we gotta come to Toys R Us first." said Toys "R" Us Shopper Jane Dousay.

And while Black Friday turns into quite a trip for shoppers for people like me, it can turn into a trip down memory lane.

Braving the chaos and the crowds isn't for everyone. It can even be daunting for those who like it.

"Crowds were tremendous. At Target, they were huge and wrapped around every store at Target." said shopper Markaylen Wiltz.

Even for the stores without big electronic doorbusters, opening a day early proved worth it.

"Black Friday has been awesome. It's the first time we've ever been open at 8:00 and customers lined up at door just like gangbusters, so a great start to the weekend." said J. C. Penny Manager  Randall Spears.

And opening earlier this year, for J. C. Penny, that meant a lot more planning. And especially more inventory to stock the departments getting picked over.

"To make sure we're staffed at all hours, recovery, line maintenance, making sure customers are getting a great experience while they're in our store."  said Spears.
