Family escapes house fire without injury


At 1:19 Thursday morning, Lafayette firefighters responded to 315 Brookside Drive to a reported house fire. The fire was reported by a witness who notice smoke coming from the roof of the dwelling. When firefighters arrived, the family, alerted by smoke detectors, was exiting out of the dwelling.

The fire was in the attic and progressing through the roof . Firefighters battled the fire for approximately 30 minutes before getting it under control. The home sustained heavy fire damage to the attic and roof area. The interior of the dwelling sustained heavy water and smoke damage.

The owners, Mark Menou, his wife, and daughter were awakened by the sound of the smoke detector. Fortunately, they escaped without any injuries. The fire originated in the attic. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
