On November 21, 2013, Narcotics Agents with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office were conducting a narcotics investigation in conjunction with Lafayette Metro Narcotics. Agents attempted to stop a vehicle involved in the investigation, which was traveling on US Highway 90. The driver, 35-year-old Jorge Martinez of New Iberia, refused to stop and began throwing evidence from the vehicle. Martinez finally stopped at the intersection of US Highway 90 and LA Highway 92 in Broussard. He, and his passenger 24-year-old Lindsy R. Noel of New Iberia, were taken into custody.

As Agents continued their investigation, they secured a search warrant for a residence in the 2900 block of Stacy Street in Iberia Parish. During the execution of the search warrant, agents discovered a large-scale marijuana cultivation operation. They seized 21 pounds of marijuana and 53 marijuana plants, with an estimated street value of $275,000.

Martinez was arrested for improper lane use, obstruction of justice, possession with the intent to distribute/manufacture marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a person under the age of 17, operation of a clandestine lab, possession of drug paraphernalia, and monies derived from drug transactions.

Noel was arrested for obstruction of justice, possession with the intent to distribute/manufacture marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of persons under the age of 17, operation of a clandestine lab, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were transported to the Iberia Parish Jail where they are being held without a bond at this time.

This case remains under investigation.

Sheriff Louis Ackal remains committed to keeping the citizens of Iberia Parish safe. The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office will continue to work with other local, state, and federal partners to ensure that narcotics remain out of our community and out of the hands of our children.See More
