Home destroyed in Judice fire

At 12:42 Sunday afternoon, firefighters from Judice, Milton, Duson, and Lafayette responded to 208 Belle Plaine Avenue to a reported house fire. When emergency crews arrived, the dwelling was engulfed in flames.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the roof of the single family dwelling. Firefighters combated the fire for approximately twenty minutes before getting it under control. The dwelling sustained heavy fire damage. The houses on both sides of the dwelling also sustained minor fire damage from radiated heat.

The owner, David Cabral, and his kids left earlier to go shopping. He was contacted by neighbors to inform him that his house was on fire. The owner lost everything in the fire. There were also two dogs that perished in the fire.

Lafayette Fire Department investigators are examining the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. It appears the fire originated in the kitchen area. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
