Police stop burglary in progress

Kaplan Police on routine patrol early Sunday morning say they spotted a burglary in process at the Dollar General store.

Assistant Police Chief Virgie Lemaire and two other officers were on patrol checking businesses in the area when they say a man standing at the front of the store spotted them and took off running for a field.

The officers called in back up and used a K9 officer to make sure the store was safe to enter.

Once inside officers say surveillance video inside the store helped them identify one burglary suspects as 32-year-old Joseph Allen Abshire who was apprehended within 30 minutes of the burglary.

Abhsire's alleged girlfriend, Kayla Boyd, has been charged as a principal to burglary.
