According to Sheriff Louis Ackal, at approximately 7:48 p.m. on November 6, 2013, deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office responded to Iberia Middle School in reference to a bomb threat.
School administrators contacted the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office after a teacher was made aware of a possible threat Wednesday evening.
The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office Haz-Mat Unit arrived on scene along with the Iberia Parish Fire District. A search of the school was done by emergency personnel on Wednesday evening and again on Thursday Morning.
A dog trained to detect explosive material was provided by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and assisted with the search early Thursday Morning. Also on Thursday morning, the students who arrived at school were checked by school personnel to ensure no devices were brought to campus.
Emergency personnel did not locate any threat to the staff or students and classes resumed as normal.
The incident is under investigation by detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office.
