Kidnapping, victim reunited with family

Sunday dinner held special meaning for the Arceneaux family as they gathered in prayer and thanks.

Twenty nine year old Bethany Arceneaux, is home from the hospital and reunited with her 2-year-old son after being rescued following her kidnapping on Wednesday.

The father of Arceneaux's child, Scott Thomas, is dead. He was killed when family members stormed a vacant house to rescue Arceneaux, whom they said they feared was in mortal danger.

No family members have been charged in the fatal shooting but a report on the case has been sent to the district attorney.

Despite the unresolved issues, the large family is celebrating their answered prayer to find Arceneaux and bring her home.




Details are emerging from how the kidnapping of Bethany Arceneaux ended. According to police, family searched an abandoned property and saw her inside. They got inside and Thomas attacked her. The family member then defended Bethany, shooting Thomas. Then left the scene with Bethany. Thomas has been pronounced dead.



 According to Caroline Balchunas on the scene, the LPD Special Response Team Is surrounding abandoned home trying to get Scott Thomas out. The standoff is still active.

This situation is still unfolding but we are getting good news from Bethany Arceneaux's family. They tell KLFY she was hurt, stabbed and cut, but is expected to recover. They want to let Acadiana know she's been found and thank the community for the help

KLFY has confirmed that police are in a standoff situation with Scott Thomas. Thomas is accused of kidnapping Bethany Arceneaux. She has been found alive, but Thomas is not in custody. The standoff is happening on Anderson Road in Duson.

Update: Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department have released the identity of the victim as Bethany Arceneaux (29) of Duson. Anyone with information regarding the location of Arceneaux is encouraged to call Lafayette Police. The investigation remains ongoing.

Lafayette, LA - On November 6, 2013, at approximately 5:20 pm, Lafayette Police responded to a kidnapping incident in the 500 block of Madeline Avenue.

According to witnesses, the suspect, 29 year old Scott Thomas of Leonville, arrived at a daycare on Madeline Avenue and confronted his child's mother, a 29 year old female. Thomas allegedly forced the victim into his vehicle and fled the scene. The victim's 2 year old child was left inside of the victim's vehicle at the daycare.

At approximately 7:30 pm, the suspect's vehicle, a white older model Buick LeSabre, was located unoccupied on Anderson Road in Lafayette Parish. Lafayette Police have issued an arrest warrant for Scott W. Thomas for Kidnapping.

The whereabouts of the victim remain unknown at this time.

Lafayette Police encourage anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Thomas or the victim to contact Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
