Prosecutors to seek death penalty in child's death

Posted:

If convicted, 22-year-old Landon Broussard could face the death penalty for the alleged rape and murder of his girl friend's 3-year-old son, Julian Madera, last November.

Lafayette Parish District Attorney Mike Harson notified the court last week his office intends to seek the death penalty.

Broussard was arrested November 29th, 2012 after Madera was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Prosecutors say an autopsy report indicates the child died of head and neck trauma, but that his body was covered with other injuries. Broussard says he's innocent and claims the child's injuries were sustained in a fall.
