A new completion date is being announced for the new Sports Complex in Youngsville. On Tuesday, the Recreation Director addressed the Youngsville City Council with a project update."Everybody is seeing the progress and getting anxious. We are too," says Recreation Director Tim Robichaux.
The city anticipated the middle of January 2014 to be the completion date. Robichaux is now hoping for the end of January; with weather permitting. "Of course, it's a weather issue. That's what it's been in the past and probably will be now and until when we can open," says Robichaux.
In about 3 months, Robichaux have an estimated $15 million facility to manage. A massive project Robichaux believes to be about 60% to 65% complete. "We still have the softball concession. It's a huge concession in the middle of the baseball fields. Also, we have the tennis courts to go up and along with the walls and buildings and the fabrication of the steel for those buildings," adds Robichaux.
Phase One is the sports complex. Phase two will be the community center that will house all the indoor sports activities. The city hopes to send out for bids by the end of November; with construction starting the first of next year.
"This facility will be well lit when all the lights are on. It won't be hard to find us. Again, it's great for the administration and for the citizens for what they accomplished. I think it's going to be a great win for everybody," says Robichaux.
Robichaux says two local soccer organizations have signed letters of intent to use the new facility as well. He plans to offer them a year contract with an end-of-year program evaluation.
