A local business called OPD Tuesday morning at 8:14 A.M. advising that a vehicle had struck a boat, a tree line, and a fence on their property. The caller also advised that the driver appeared to be deceased. Officers responded to find 35 year old Daniel Hardy of Opelousas still behind the wheel of a 1999 green Honda CRV.
The owner of the vehicle contacted OPD Sat. morning advising that she allowed Mr Hardy to use the vehicle Friday and he had not returned. She returned to OPD this morning advising still that Mr Hardy had not returned. Moments later OPD received the call from employees of Fakouri Plumbing in regards to the apparent fatal accident. It appears that sometime Sat night Mr Hardy was traveling south on Main st. at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop at Main streets intersection with Leonard street, proceeded straight ahead onto the private drive of the business and struck a boat followed by a tree line.
Employees indicated that at the end of the day Saturday all was clear, therefore, we feel the accident occurred sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning. The vehicle could not be seen from the street which is why it was not discovered until employees returned to work this morning.
