The South Louisiana Black Pot Festival & Cookoff kicks off this weekend at Acadian Village.

The festival features a black pot cook off, accordion contest, camping and more.

Some of the bands performing include Pine Leaf Boys, Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco RoadRunners, Little Freddie King, Red Stick Ramblers and more.

The music gets started Friday at 5 p.m. and runs till midnight. Saturday is from 11:30 a.m. till midnight.

Admission is $20 Friday and $30 Saturday. Saturday's entry fee includes free tasting at all cook-off foods. Children under 12 get in free.

    On Monday, August 25, 2014 at approximately 12:00 pm the Lafayette Police Department responded to 1404 Carmel Drive, a residence in Village Du Lac, in reference to the death of a 92 year old female. Initially the investigation did not reveal anything suspicious. The body was later examined by the coroner and determined to be a homicide.
