Bridge the technology gap

Posted: Updated:

Vermilion Parish School System, the NAACP, South Louisiana Community College, and Cox Communications have teamed up to help bridge the technology gap in that parish.

The partnership creates a user-friendly online resource center, where parents can access their child's homework, check grades and communicate with teachers. School administrators will even teach parents how to use the website by hosting seminars at various schools. But this partnership goes even further.

Dr.Marcil Seals says SLCC is offering programs to help people learn technologies and also help those who need it get a GED. Dr.Seals goes on to say that cox is promoting a program called Connect to Compete. That program allows any family whose child qualifies for free lunch to get internet access through cox at just 9.99 a month.

Those involved with this partnership hope to give parents the tools they need to keep up with the technological advances being made in classroom, allowing them more involvement with their child's school work.
