Despite the fact teachers told them they were happy with what they had, the Lafayette Parish School Board will try again this week to change the administrator who handles its self-funded employee health insurance program.
On the September 19th meeting, the board rejected a proposal by key benefits administrator to be the district's new administrator.
Then less than a month later the board tried to reverse its decision by voting to hire the company.
But according to the boards attorney that October second vote was invalid because the item was on the agenda as only as introductory item and was passed by a simple majority and not the two thirds majority necessary for such action.
On Wednesday the board will take steps to rescind its action and could reconsider its choice of an insurance administrator.
Some retired teachers have expressed outrage over the way the issue has been handled and have gone as far as to suggest some board members may have a personal agenda concerning this matter.
