Lawn & Garden - Brown Grass

Gary:  Would you like your lawn to be green year round? A lot of people do.  This time of year it starts turning brown, John how can we take care of that problem?

John:  Well, with different types of rye grasses that we have in stock. October November really are the months you want to get it out there. It's the best months, you can put it out other months, but that's your best months.  Right now that we've had a lot of rain and everything it is a good time to put it out because it'll come up within a week.

We have two types, we have a pasture type rye that people with horses ad stuff have that get real tall.  Then we have the Pantera rye which is a lower growing rye which is a turf rye.  If you never mow it it'll probably grow a foot, you're still gonna need to mow it though.  It looks great!  This is what the seed looks like.  A Very light, larger seed than something like Bermuda, but it comes up real quick.

Also, we've just finished with chinch bugs in the lawn the damage they have put out, now the next thing, again, the end of this month probably, and November and then again in the spring…brown patch!  We have these granules you can put out in the affected areas.  If you start seeing your grass not growing too much in one area, it's showing you there's a problem. Put this out and it'll stop it before you just lose the whole patch and make it look bad.
