Kenny Demouchet's Hoop Dreams

A chance to try-out in a draft for professional sports can be rare and News 10's Hope Ford spoke with a former Opelousas High School star basketball player as he prepares to do just that.

"Kenny Demouchet: "Its slim, it's like one in a million and for me it's the same way Im still in awe.""

Kenny Demouchet has a shot of a lifetime he will try out for the NBA D league draft on November first in New York City.

"Kenny Demouchet: "My name got out there, I went and played in California in the summer league and I shined out there."

A star player in his high school years at Opelousas High, he hopes making it to minor league basketball will help him make it to the NBA or even playing overseas. And his old coach wants nothing more than to see him succeed.

"Coach Jamie Rollins: "Do things leave here and graduate from college and try out for the NBA its says a lot for him for him his parents the program and the school.""

For now, he is focused on training and hopes his story inspires others.

"Kenny Demouchet: "People always say well this generation is different and I don't think there is a generation gap I think it's an information gap, not enough stories being told from older folks and not enough kids being shadowed by older folks."

"Coach Jamie: "but I really appreciate you working out with the boys."

And coming from a school that was recently spotlighted for a violent altercation, he says keep your eyes open, focus on the future and know nothing is out of reach, if you really want it.

Demouchet first received a call from the Maine Red Claws to put his name in the NBA D league draft just after he graduated from Jackson State University with a degree in broadcasting, but he says he'll go into his career field when he can no longer dribble a ball.
